World Gone Wild

industrialized-earth.jpgHere’s something that’s been floating around on the net for awhile. Still, it’s a fun application that gives you a general idea of what’s happening on Earth (although no doubt, not 100% accurate). You might stop and think about what the world would be like if we ran out of oil, started placing landfills in our own backyards, or if the world population was to double! Supposedly, the UN expects the world population to level off by the year 2050. Guess we’ll find out…..assuming we’re still here.

What do you guys think? Not only about this clock, but the discussion in general. Is the destruction of Earth and mankind inevitable, or will we always find a solution? How aware are you when placing your footprint? Anyways, I enjoy finding things like this that keep me amused for a few minutes. Let me know if you have something fun you want to share.

Interesting it is to note that, whiles reading this article 15 people have been infected with HIV and 34 with cancer. Its even sadder to note however that 300 people are suffering fro malnutrition by the time i post this comment. what a shame yet how insightful.

I am under the impression that the Earth will be fine in a long run and that means way beyond a human’s lifespan. Any efforts that we’re putting in right now is to preserve the environment that is suited for human life.

But the obvious problem is that due to human’s relatively short lifespan, we don’t normally see the consequences of our actions but the imediate incentives. Cut down carbon emmission? No way, that means inconvenience now. More plastic bags? Why not? It’s so simple to use.

So… in the perverse sense, the only way to conserve the environment is to prolong human’s lifespan… :)

For whatever reason, we Americans are long suffering in the stupid people that we allow to govern us. This is a hazardous fault that has screwed up everything and left very little money or regard for our planet.

It appears that we are slowly but surely getting the message that our resources are not endless, and that we must take measures to preserve our planet.

While we certainly can’t know the end result, I believe that if each of us does something, if it’s only one thing consistently, it will contribute to the longevity of this planet and its resources.

What a load of crap. This world has been going since before we were here and it will keep going long after we’re gone. The earth is resilient and adaptable. Can we affect small changes in our local environments? Yes. And I’m all for those. But our impact on the “global” environment is minimally effective (if at all). Scientists aren’t even in agreement (despite the claims of media) that whatever warming has occurred is related to man’s activities. Volcanoes and termites have more impact than cars.

I remember a propaganda poster in my high school science class showing the world paved. It’s nothing more than an attempt to convince people that the world is ending. Like the crazy guy with a sign board out on the street corner. “The sky is falling” is a lot more newsworthy than “all is well”.

I think that a lack of fossil fuels will directly impact the ability of mankind to continue to expand. There are some crazy days ahead. I heard that Australia was thinking of taxing each kid because of the resources that person will use. Do I think we are doomed? No. Do I think things won’t be like they are today? Yes. And I sincerely hope we come up with some solutions so we aren’t living in a Mad Max world someday!
