Koenigsegg CCX
There are cars, and then there are supercars. What exactly qualifies a car as being a supercar? While this standard is sometimes highly debated, there is no question about the status Koenigsegg’s CCX; it truly is a supercar. With over 800hp, a 0-60 time of 3.2 seconds, the capability of handling 1.3 Gs of lateral force, and an estimated top speed of 240 miles per hour, the CCX is in a league that few other cars have ever ventured into.
The CCX is the product of Koenigsegg Automotive AB, a high end performance car company based out of Margetetorp, Sweden founded by Christian von Koenigsegg in 1994 at the tender age of 22. It is their 4th venture into the super car market going back to 1998 with the CC, 2002 with the CC8S, and 2004 CCR.
The CCX, which stands for Competition Coupe X (for the companies 10th anniversary of the CC), is powered by a 4.7 liter V8 which is based on Ford’s modular V8. The motor features twin superchargers and is built by Formula 1 builder Grainger and Worral in the UK making 806hp at 6,900 rpm and 678 ft-lbs of tq at 5,700 rpm. The engine is made out of light weight aluminum that goes through an extensive heat treatment allowing it to make full power on 91 octane gasoline which can be found anywhere.
The CCX gets all of that power to the wheels through a six speed manual transmission made by Cima. For those that don’t want to shift a standard transmission, a six speed sequential transmission is also available as an option. The limited slip differential is standard.
Everywhere you look on the CCX you find carbon fiber. The light weight body is constructed entirely of carbon fiber, foam, and Kevlar. The car’s 0.297 coefficient of drag is made possible by the sleek design and completely flat underbody. The suspension features hydraulic ride height adjustment that is controller within the cabin which lowers the car at higher speeds contributing to its stability and aerodynamics.
The CCX comes riding on 19 inch front and 10 inch rear magnesium alloy wheels wrapped in special Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tired that are made to withstand high speeds. To bring all this fun to a halt are large vented disk brakes with 6 piston calipers.
A high end super car needs nothing else right? Guess again. The CCX has an almost limitless options list which includes carbon / ceramic brakes, roll cage with harnesses, clear coated carbon fiber exterior, and more. If the CCX isn’t enough of a car for you, then how about the CCXR which produces 1,018 bhp on E85 ethanol. All of this can be yours for the standard price of $695,000usd.
The Koenigsegg CCX is a truly amazing supercar and is definitely….
