Not long after his victory in the U.S. Open and being the seventh man in tennis history, and the youngest at 24, to accomplish a career Grand Slam on September 13, Rafael Nadal is already making appearances and fulfilling press duties. He appeared on “Live! With Regis and Kelly” on September 14. Nadal, whom Djokovic predicts to be world’s best ever tennis star, won his fourth top tennis tournament already besides Wimbledon and the French Open. The brilliant left hander still looks to have much hunger for competing and winning. He’s also said to be the front runner for 2010 Associated Press Male Athlete of the Year. Nadal beat Djokovic and Nadal came out victorious 6-4 5-7 6-4 6-2.

Rafael Nadal has also been out an about in New York City doing some TV and radio interviews including the “Today Show” and NBC. The Rafamania continued at Nasdaq times square with New York fans all gathered for his Trophy photo-shoot and more of his interviews and public appearances. Rafael Nadal appeared on a total of 5 American shows just a day after his victory.

Even before Nadal won the U.S. Open its way clear how he’s one great tennis superstar to all, especially as celebrities came to watch him during the finals, namely: Alec Baldwin, Wayne Gretzky, Gwen Stefani and hubby Gavin Rossdale, Donald Trump, Alex Rodriguez, Rick Fox, Bradley Cooper, Tony Bennet, and super model Bar Refaeli whom Nadal teamed up with for a charity match in New York. Refaeli was a mainstay in the courts and was seated in her box seat during the Finals.

Nadal now joins tennis greats Rod Laver, Pete Sampras and Roger Federer as a tennis champ to win three consecutive Grand Slam championships in the Open Era. And by the looks of it, his press duties have only just begun.

Euphoria swept across the city yesterday as the U.S. soccer team tied heavily favored England in one of the World Cup’s most anticipated matches.

The stunning 1-1 result sent delirious fans pouring out of bars across the five boroughs, waving American flags and chanting, “U-S-A!”

“That was just amazing,” crowed Christopher York, 24, an accountant who watched the game at Nevada Smith’s in Manhattan. “Words can’t describe it.”

Will Woods, 23, and dozens of other crazed U.S. fans took over the sidewalks on Third Ave. in the East Village, soaked in alcohol, but still ecstatic.

“I’m covered in beer,” hollered the American flag-draped Woods, a paralegal from the upper East Side. “It’s a great result for us. It’s important to know as Americans that the British consider this a loss.”

Similar celebrations broke out in Brooklyn.

“I’m glad we got a draw – a draw’s a win,” said Jesse Patch, 29, a freelance videographer who watched the game in Prospect Heights.

Not everyone was so pleased. Grim-faced Brits like Nick Willmore were a regular sight in the city yesterday.

“Every World Cup, we watch with anticipation, but England always chokes at the last minute,” said Willmore, 22, a medical student.

The U.S. got off to the worst possible start as England captain Steven Gerrard slotted home a neat pass from striker Emile Heskey just four minutes into the game.

The Americans pressed forward in the later stages of the half, but were denied several times by England’s hard-nosed defense.

The equalizer came in the 40th minute when England’s goalkeeper Robert Green made one of the biggest blunders in World Cup history.

Midfielder Clint Dempsey spun around Gerrard and let rip an apparently harmless left-footed shot from 25 yards out. The ball bounced off Green’s hands and trickled into the net, setting off pandemonium across the city.

“That was amazing,” hollered Rich Fernandez, 26, of the Bronx, from the bar at Nevada Smith’s.

Fernandez then took a dig at Green.

“If the British goalkeeper were an American, he’d be fifth-string,” he riffed.

In Brooklyn, more than 200 soccer fans filled Vanderbilt Ave. near Dean St. to take in the hotly anticipated match on a giant screen.

Others hung out of their windows to cheer on the underdog Americans.

Paul Cake, a 23-year-old British tourist, wandered into the euphoric crowd and couldn’t believe the energy.

“I didn’t think soccer was big in the U.S., but this is epic,” Cake said.

The rivalry reached the highest levels of government.

Before the game, President Obama called British Prime Minister David Cameron and bet a beer on an American victory.

It’s unclear if any brews will be exchanged as a result of the tie.

ABC will begin it’s Indy 500 TV schedule at noon ET on Sunday, May 30, 2010 with a preview and analysis show of the 94th race from the Brickyard. Then it will be followed by a live coverage of the races.

This year is the 94th running of the Indy 500. There’s a full Indy 500 schedule of events despite the fact that the race itself doesn’t start for hour yet.

Excitement really builds as the race nears. Racers are also getting ready to grab victory. Helio Castroneves is widely favored among the racers. This will be the fourth time if he wins this year. On the other hand, Indy car racing’s most popular driver Danica Patrick was booed earlier for giving negative comments.

2010 Indianapolis 500 TV Schedule:
12:00 p.m. ET – 1:00 p.m. ET – ABC – The Indianapolis 500 Pre-Race coverage
1:00 p.m. ET – 4:30 p.m. ET – ABC – The Indianapolis 500 – Live coverage of 94th running

Stay tuned and don’t miss the excitement of the 2010 Indy 500!

Hollywood cast a vote in favor of the creation of an empowered, independent Consumer Financial Protection Agency on Thursday in the form of a humorous yet blatantly political video that’s gone viral.

Entitled ‘Presidential Reunion’, the video is a skit that depicts U.S. presidents dating back to Gerald Ford paying a visit to current President Barack Obama in his White House bedroom to urge him to stay the course on the CFPA, and make sure bipartisan compromise doesn’t render it toothless.

Comedian Will Ferrell is one of the people behind the ‘Funny or Die!’ Web site where the video appears, and the skit features him reprising his Saturday Night Live role as George W. Bush. The other actors involved, most of whom have been connected with SNL, include Darrell Hammond as Bill Clinton, Dana Carvey as George Bush Sr., Jim Carrey as Ronald Reagan, Dan Aykroyd as Jimmy Carter and Chevy Chase as Ford. Ron Howard is involved as well, reportedly directing the video and providing some voiceover at the end.

The video points watchers toward the Web site of The Main Street Brigade, which features information about the proposed CFPA, seeks to counter criticisms levied at the idea, and urges people to call their Senators.

While there are plenty of jokes, the skit does consistently hammer away at the idea that Obama shouldn’t give in and compromise on the CFPA, regardless of the political consequences, and Howard’s voiceover is pointed call for people to get involved in order to counter lobbying by the banks.

“The banks have billions of dollars to spend to get their message out but your speech is free,” Howard says. “Contact your senators about the CFPA. Nothing annoys them more than having to do their jobs.”

The Main Street Brigade Web site features Harvard Law School professor and CFPA proponent Elizabeth Warren in much of its content, including a blog entry called ‘CFPA Straight Talk’ and links to a number of her media appearances. In another section, called “The CFPA: Myths and Facts,’ the site takes dead aim at big banks who received government support during the financial crisis, claiming they are already up to their old tricks.

“Today, after raking in our in our tax dollars in bailout money, the big banks are back to business as usual, spending hundreds of millions to pay lobbyists and advertising agencies to fight against reforms that would protect us from their abuses in the future,” the site says.

It remains to be seen if the video will inspire citizens to call their Senators and actually impact what happens on Capitol Hill, but investors were taking this latest round of Wall Street bashing in stride and with shares of all the usual suspects — Bank of America, Citigroup, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase, Morgan Stanley and Wells Fargo — moving higher in afternoon trades.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Current Olympians and others in the ski community are mourning the loss of professional free skier C.R. Johnson, who died in a fall while skiing a steep chute at California’s Squaw Valley.

Johnson, 26, who has competed in the Winter X Games, was skiing with a group of friends when he fell while trying to negotiate a “very, very tight, rocky area,” said Jim Rogers, a member of the Lake Tahoe-area resort’s ski patrol.

He fell face-first, then spun around and struck the back of his head on rocks in the Light Towers area of the resort. Johnson was wearing a helmet, but Rogers said the helmet took a serious blow.

Ski patrol members were called shortly before 2 p.m. but were unable to revive him. Placer County Sheriff’s Lt. Jeff Ausnow said Johnson died on the slopes.

Johnson was well-known at Squaw Valley, a challenging resort near Lake Tahoe’s north shore that hosted the 1960 Winter Olympics. It also is the home base for several members of the U.S. ski team, including Olympic alpine medalist Julia Mancuso.

She tweeted about Johnson’s death late Wednesday: “crazy day just got a little bit more unexpected… just learned that my friend and insane skier CR Johnson just died at Squaw.. my heart and prayers go out to everyone at home and CR’s family.”

Olympic snowboarder Louie Vito also tweeted his reaction: “RIP to my homie CR Johnson. He will be missed by EVERYONE. At least he was doin what he loved but CR YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!!”

Johnson’s father was an avalanche forecaster at the resort for about a decade, Rogers said. The younger skier also had rebounded from a serious injury suffered during a competition in 2005 that put him in a coma for several months.

“This is a man of very, very strong skiing talent,” Rogers said. “This young man had been a fixture here at Squaw Valley for years. … He grew up at Squaw Valley.”
Story continues below

A statement from Squaw Valley USA described Johnson as a professional skier and member of its Freeride team.

He also competed in superpipe and halfpipe skiing at events such as the X Games. A photograph on his MySpace page said he was “X-qualified” for a skiing competition in France in 2002, while the Web site for the Ski Channel Television Network said he had been nominated for male skier of the year in 2002.

The freeskier.com Web site posted clips of Johnson in several extreme skier movies, jumping off cliffs and sailing through fresh, untracked powder. One clip includes Johnson talking about relearning to use his arms and legs after a severe injury caused by a collision with another skier while filming at Utah’s Brighton ski resort in 2005.

He recalls “being one of the best skiers in the world, overly confident in your skiing, overly confident in yourself. … Right now I’m working as hard as I possibly can to return to the sport that nearly killed me.”

Squaw Valley attracts expert skiers and is known for its difficult terrain. Johnson is the fifth skier to die on the slopes over the past three years. Two of the five died in avalanches, including one member of the ski patrol.

Attempts to reach Johnson’s family late Wednesday were unsuccessful, and a telephone message left with a spokesman for the X Games was not immediately returned.

Johnson, whose first name was Charles, had posted the following statement his MySpace page: “I feel it’s most important to keep it real and enjoy each moment, you know, take advantage of every opportunity life provides, because who knows what tomorrow may bring.”

A controversial new documentary film, “Generation Zero” which provides a unique perspective on the causes of the recent financial meltdown and the economic debacle it triggered, will be premiering in a special screening at the National Tea Party Convention in Nashville today.

Andrew Breitbart will provide introductory remarks concerning the film. Breitbart will also be introducing keynote speaker, Gov. Sarah Palin the following evening.

Featuring more than 40 leading experts, authors, and pundits from across the political spectrum, “Generation Zero” exposes how the mindset of the “Greatest Generation” — to not let their children suffer through the same economic hardships that they did during the Great Depression and WWII — led to the “Me Generation” and ultimately the Clinton/Bush era of trading campaign contributions for government “cover” in the form of guaranteed bailouts of Wall Street’s speculative investments, thus sowing the seeds of economic disaster that would be reaped by coming generations.

Citizens United Productions, the leading production company for conservative films, released “Hilary The Movie,” the film that recently brought about the landmark First Amendment decision by the Supreme Court. In addition, Citizens United has produced such award winning films as “Perfect Valor,” “Border Wars”, “Hype: The Obama Effect” and “Rediscovering God in America,” among others.

“Generation Zero” was written and directed by awarding-winning director, Stephen K. Bannon (”In the Face of Evil: Reagan’s War in Word and Deed,” “Titus“). In addition Mr. Bannon and Alan Peterson (Hilary The Movie, Hype: The Obama Effect) acted as producers.

“This film is about a crisis – one that is as profound as The Revolution, The Civil War, or The Great Depression and WWII,” says Bannon. “The title ‘Generation Zero’ is ironic, as it refers to both the Baby Boomers and the generation born today: the one generation whose greed and fiscal mismanagement has destroyed the financial legacy and inheritance of the other.”

Commentators appearing in “Generation Zero” include, among others: Dr. Charles Krauthammer, Lou Dobbs, Larry Kudlow, Shelby Steele, Victor Davis Hanson, Amity Shales, Dick Morris, Peter Schweizer, Tobin Smith, Heather McDonald and Newt Gingrich.

Brian Westbrook was released Tuesday, ending an eight-year career with the Eagles during which he racked up nearly 6,000 rushing yards and more than 3,800 receiving yards. Naturally, ESPN sought an interview with the former All-Pro running back, and they appeared to secure one.

That is until “Brian Westbrook” actually spoke on SportsCenter. The caller’s real identity is Captain Janks from the Howard Stern Show, and it took less than 30 seconds of speaking before the impostor said that he has “nothing but respect for head coach Andy Reid and I look forward to a future of worshipping the prostate of Howard Stern.”

SportsCenter anchor Scott Van Pelt reacted humorously to viewers, saying, “Oh boy, we got that, huh. So that worked out well.” A pause ensued before he passed the baton to co-anchor Steve Levy with a casual “hi.” Scroll down for video of the exchange.

Overreacting much?

Scott Lago, Olympic bronze medal winning half-pipe snowboarder of Team USA, volunteered to leave the Olympics on Friday after racy pictures of him were leaked online.

Lago, who was awarded his bronze medal Thursday night, was at a party, wearing a Team USA T-shirt when somebody snapped a photo of a woman kneeling below the Olympian’s waist to kiss the medal. A second picture shows Lago sticking the medal in the woman’s mouth as teammate Greg Bretz looks on.

Both images went viral after appearing on TMZ Friday afternoon.

The pics sparked a lively discussion among sports fans online, and by Friday evening, Lago had apologized to officials at the US Olympic Committee and the US Ski and Snowboard Association and decided to go home. Both organizations have been tough on athletes after freestyle skier Jeret “Speedy” Peterson got into an alcohol-fueled incident following his competition in 2006.

“Scotty Lago is a great athlete, but with that comes a responsibility of proper conduct, and his involvement in this situation is not acceptable,” Ski and Snowboard Association President and CEO Bill Marolt said in an e-mail to The Associated Press on Saturday. “Scotty realizes his conduct was inappropriate. He has formally apologized and also made a decision to leave Vancouver today.”

Lago was a member of a group of snowboarders called The Frends.

Thanks to Tiger Wood’s apology video, Youtube is getting a huge spike of traffic. If you missed the news this morning, you can now see the entire video on Youtube, thanks to CNN.

The Tiger Woods’ apology video and press statements are hot news in the Sports world today. Tiger apologized to his fans for his marital indiscretions and said that he does plan on returning to golf, eventually.

In the apology video, Tiger Woods acknowledges that he has disappointed his fans. “I have disappointed all of you and made you question who I am and how I could have done the things I did.” He indicated that he has been in rehab since the sex scandal hit the news for “various issues” (those being an assortment of about 11 or so porn stars, waitresses, hookers, models, etc. that he had affairs with).

According to the LA Times, at least one of Tiger’s mistresses feels she is also owed an apology. Represented by attorney Gloria Allred, who is representing mistress Joslyn James, says her client deserves her own apology. Allred and James staged a news conference this morning after the golfer’s speech.

James chided Woods for leaving James out of his mea culpas. Why? Because he told her he loved her. That’s why.

In the conference, James, a.k.a. Veronica Siwik-Daniels, apologized for any pain she caused to Tiger’s wife and kids.

She also said, “I would be open to a telephone apology from Tiger, but I really feel that I deserve to look at him in person face to face, in his eyes, because I didn’t deserve this.

“I have had to deal with a lot, and too much from him, and because of him …. He knows I was very straight and honest with him, but for a long time he lied to me.

“Tiger pursued me, and over time, and I fell in love with him, and he told me he loved me too.”

How Not to Get Caught Like Tiger

According to Esquire, you need Two of everything and a lot of practice to avoid getting caught cheating.

Practice, practice, practice. Up before dawn, in the field, lying, deceiving, beguiling. Day in, day out, until your tongue calluses bleed and you get it right. Then buy a guidebook.

Schedule trysts during working hours, always answer your phone if it’s your spouse, pay in cash, and don’t raise suspicion by suddenly getting in shape or becoming more attractive in any way, just stay the same slob you’ve always been. The rest can be summarized with the “two of everything” rule: two mobile phones (a prepaid one is best), two computers, two credit cards, two addresses (a P.O. box for your affair bills), and, if you can swing it, two dicks.

CNN produced the 14 minute Tiger Woods apology video.

Al Gore and the rest of his minions have been talking about the need to ‘go green’ for many years now. Auto makers have finally jumped on board and produced low emissions and no emissions cars. They range from hybrids to hydrogen based engines all the way to 100% electric vehicles. On thing that they all have in common is that they are small and light weight. The less mass they have to carry around, the better their fuel mileage will be, but does size matter on the open road?

Of course it does, dummy! Never mind that you can’t buy more then a bag or two of groceries at the store and take them home in your Smart car, but how about what happens when you get into an accident. Well a new round of crash tests have been released that focused on ‘green’ cars and the results may have you running back to your gas guzzler.

Check out the link to see these crash tests in action. Its scary stuff!
